Norethistherone is a progestogen hormone drug which can help maintain the lining of the womb thus delaying a period from happening.
Norethistherone can be used to delay a patient's menstrual period. It works by affecting the uterus by stopping bleeding. It is a synthetic and pure form of progestogen and may have some androgenic effects on the body.
Progestogen is responsible for maintaining the uterus lining. Prior to a menstrual period, progestogen levels fall dramatically to cause shedding of the uterine walls (menstruation). Norethistherone delays your period.
Norethistherone doesn’t affect egg cells or the ovary and cannot be used as contraception.
To delay your period, it needs to be taken three times daily.
